Week 7 Top 10 Post SCT
Week 7
10/17 to 10/23 (Previous Rank)
1. Freehold Township (1) 15-1-0 - The Patriots accomplished goal number two of the season, winning the SCT for the second straight year by defeating Howell 1-0. Now Freehold Township will be the team to beat as they defend CJG4. They will enter states with the #1 seed and face New Brunswick in the opening round.
2. Howell (2) 12-3-1 - Howell has had a remarkable season that only a few saw coming (Cough Cough). They gave the defending champs a hard game in the SCT Finals, but ultimately lost 1-0. Howell has earned the 5th seed in CJG4 and will host division rival Marlboro in the opening round.
3. Point Boro (3) 13-2-0 - Point Boro's run in SCT ended in the semis against Howell in a hard fought 2-1 defeat. The Panthers earned the 2nd seed in CJG2 and will look to make a run to the finals. They open up with Bround Brook and then face the Delaware Valley/Ocean Twp matchup.
4. Manalapan (6) 11-3-1 - Manalapan went 3-0 this week in tune up games for the state tournament this week after losing a tough one to Howell in the quarters in the side of the bracket I labeled "bracket of death". Manalapan enteres CJG4 as the 6th seed and face Princeton in the opening round.
5. Middletown South (9) 9-4-1 - Middletown South rebounded nicely after being upset by Manasquan, they defeated RBC 1-0 last week and followed it with a 6-0 win over Notre Dame. They enter CJG3 as the 3rd seed and will face West Windsor in the opening round.
6. Toms River South (7) 9-4-2 - After being eliminated by top seed Freehold Twp in the SCT, they tied cross town rival TRE 1-1 and ended up losing their top spot in A South. They then defeated Cinnaminson 3-2 and Holmdel 3-0 in tune up games as they enter states. They are the 5th seed in SJG3 and face Clearview.
7. RBC (4) 10-4-0 - The good news is RBC is the #1 seed of NPA South and will have a bye in the first round of the state tournament. The bad news they lost two straight last week. They will look to get back on track with a tune up game against St. Rose Tuesday. They play the winner of Camden Catholic and Notre Dame in the second round of the states.
8. Brick Memorial (10) 8-3-2 - As long as they don't have to play TRS in the states they should be good. Last week they tied Rumson 1-1 and defeated Wall 2-1 in tune up games. The Mustangs are the 5th seed in CJG3 and will face Ewing in the opening round. If they win they might be able to revenge their first lost against Jackson Memorial.
9. Central Regional (NR) 11-4-1 - Central is having a great turn around season. The common thing I am told after a game of theirs is "Thats the best team I have seen this season". (exception Freehold Twp) They won five straight games entering states all in convincing fashion. They are the 5th seed in SJG4 and face Vineland in the opening round. We can see a possible rematch of Central and TRN in the quarterfinals.
10. Toms River North (NR) 11-5-0 - Not the typical season you expect out of TRN, but do not count them out. They enter SJG4 as the 4th seed and face Gloucester Tech in the first round. If they win and Central Regional win we will get to see a rematch with them.
