Week 2 Top 10
Week 2 Top 10 9/11 to 9/18 (Last Week Rankings)
1. Freehold Township (1) 4-0-0 - The Patriots defeated cross town opponent Freehold Boro (1-4) 4-0 and are currently down in Maryland where they defeated McDonough 3-0. Today they play Archbishop Spalding to wrap up their trip and then play division rival #5 Manalapan, division opponent Middletown North and end the week with Shore Regional (1-3).
2. RBC (3) 2-1-0 - The Caseys defeated rival Holmdel (4-1) 5-1 this week before losing their first game in Maryland to Archbishop Spalding 4-0. They wrap up the tough Maryland trip with McDonogh today and then come home to face Trinity Hall and Shore Regional (1-3).
3. Middletown South (6) 3-1-1 - Three wins this week against good competition. First they defeated RFH (1-2-1) 2-1 then beat newly ranked #7 SJV (3-1) 3-0 and ended the week beating Toms River South (2-1-1) 2-0. This week they have division games against Marlboro (0-1-1) and #5 Manalapan (3-0-1).
4. Brick Memorial (5) 3-1-1 - What a tough week for the Mustangs. They defeated #2 TRN (1-2) 2-1 for the first time since 2014. They followed that with a loss to Jackson Memorial (2-3) 2-1 in overtime. They ended the week back on track with a 2-1 victory over Ocean Twp (3-2). This week the only game I see scheduled is against cross town rival Brick Twp (0-4).
5. Manalapan (8) 3-0-1 - Manalapan had a busy week playing three games. First they defeated Marlboro (0-1-1) 2-0 and then tied new ranked #6 Howell (4-0-1) 1-1. They ended the week defeating Shore Regional (1-3) 4-1. This week does not get any easier. They have Jackson Memorial (2-3) and then have two tough divisional matchups when they face #1 Freehold Township (4-0) on Tuesday and they end this week against #3 Middletown South (3-1-1).
6. Howell (NR) 4-0-1 - Howell is off to one of their best starts in years. They defeated Trinity Hall (1-2-1) 1-0 then they tied #8 Manalapan (3-0-1) 1-1 and ended the week defeating Southern (0-4) 5-0. This week they face St. Rose (2-2), Marlboro (0-1-1) and end the week vs Brick Twp (0-4). I said in preseason watch out they would surprise some people, now teams will be ready.
7. SJV (NR) 3-1-0 - SJV started the week upsetting #4 Wall (2-1) 2-0 which was the second top 10 team they defeated to start the season and followed that by defeating Manasquan (3-2) 2-1. They ended the week losing to #6 Midd South (3-1-1) 3-0. Next week they play Matawan (2-2) and #10 TRN (1-2)
8. Wall (4) 2-1-0 - Wall started the week by losing to SJV (3-1) 2-0 at home. They then defeated Raritan (2-2) 3-1. Look for Wall to get on track this week, Shore Regional (1-3), Monmouth Regional (2-3) and Toms River East (2-1)
9. Point Boro (10) 4-0-0 . The Panthers went 3-0 this week defeating Central Regional (2-1-1) in a tough game 3-2. The rest of the week was a cakewalk which will be a common theme with the schedule coming up for Point Boro. They defeated Lakewood (0-3) and Pinelands (0-4) both 7-0. Next week the Panthers have Liberty (4-1) which will be for the division title and then it should be smooth sailing rest of the way. They end the week with Monmouth Regional (2-3).
10. Toms River North (2) (1-2-0) - When was the last time TRN lost 2 games in the regular season in one week? They lost to divisional rival #5 Brick Memorial (3-1-1) 2-1 in a great game. Then lost to Central Regional (2-1-1) 3-2 in overtime. Look for the Mariners to get back on track with games against Holmdel (4-1), Toms River South (2-1-1) and end the week against #7 SJV (3-1).
Bubble Teams
Jackson Liberty (4-1) They are right there. Hopefully goalie Camryn Wiese will be able to play against Pt Boro.
Holmdel (4-1) If they can hand TRN their third loss they will be knocking on the door next week.
Red Bank Regional (3-0) Winning the games they should. Two tough games to start the week to see if they are ready for the next level.
Colts Neck (2-2) If they start finishing more like they did vs Liberty they will be back in Top 10.
